Canadian County’s County Commissioner District 3 seat will be filled during the June 28 primary. No Democrat filed during the April filing period. The two candidates who filed are both Republicans: Robert Merrick, age 38, of Yukon, and Tracey Rider, age 60, of El Reno. For the past 12 years, Jack Stewart has served as County Commissioner for District 3. However, the seat is open because Stewart filed for State Senate District 18 race.

Yukon 66 Main Street Association (Y66MSA) is hosting “Yukon’s Best History Contest” the entire month of May. Hundreds of dollars in prizes are available for contestants to win. Weekly prizes will be awarded in three age categories: adult, youth, and children. Grand prizes, all worth at least $100, will be awarded at the end of May, drawn from all entries.

Mustang High School’s (MHS) annual Broncos Empowering A Society Together (BEAST) Week raised $60,343.14 this year. The event kicked off on March 23, culminating with the “Feed the BEAST” assembly held at MHS on Friday, April 1. However, the fundraiser is actually a yearround endeavor.

The Mustang Public Schools (MPS) Bronco Athletic Council is sponsoring a two week drive to collect sporting good items to donate to Cleats for Kids (C4K). MPS Director of Communications Kirk Wilson said, “Donations are being accepted at the Event Center until end of the day May 6.

The Mustang slowpitch softball team had to travel to Tulsa last week for the start of the postseason. Despite being the reigning 6A champions, if they were going to defend their crown it was going to have to start on the road.

The Piedmont Area Veterans Association (PAVA) is hosting an inaugural event, VetsFest 2022, on May 14, from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. The family-friendly, free event will be held at the PAVA Event Center, 240 Edmond Road Northwest, in Piedmont, and the massive, surrounding fields to the west and south of the center.

Voters will choose the State of Oklahoma Senate District 18 senator on the June 28 primary. Only two candidates filed for the seat and both are Republicans. They are 27-year old Hunter Zearley, and District 3 County Commissioner Jack Stewart, age 72, both of Yukon.
