District 3 County Commissioner seat to be filled June 28; No Democrats filed for race

Canadian County’s County Commissioner District 3 seat will be filled during the June 28 primary. No Democrat filed during the April filing period. The two candidates who filed are both Republicans: Robert Merrick, age 38, of Yukon, and Tracey Rider, age 60, of El Reno. For the past 12 years, Jack Stewart has served as County Commissioner for District 3. However, the seat is open because Stewart filed for State Senate District 18 race.

“Yukon’s Best History Contest” open to everyone; Fun and lots of prizes up for grabs

Yukon 66 Main Street Association (Y66MSA) is hosting “Yukon’s Best History Contest” the entire month of May. Hundreds of dollars in prizes are available for contestants to win. Weekly prizes will be awarded in three age categories: adult, youth, and children. Grand prizes, all worth at least $100, will be awarded at the end of May, drawn from all entries.

The Mustang slowpitch softball team had to travel to Tulsa last week for the start of the postseason. Despite being the reigning 6A champions, if they were going to defend their crown it was going to have to start on the road.
