Oh, my, Mustang. Where has the time gone?

Such a fleeting thing, that time. Although it has been about a year and a half, I feel like I started just yesterday.

My heels hit the ground running after college and it seems they never stopped. You did such a fine job of welcoming my newly-graduated self into the Bronco community, and in a pandemic no less.

I can’t even begin to tell you how much fun I’ve had since August 2020. The events, meetings, luncheons and who could forget Positive Posse.

I thoroughly enjoyed you all keeping an eye on me as I took my notes, giving the ole reporter a hard time (wink, wink). Most of all though, your stories.

My goodness. Your stories that you entrusted me to tell.

I’m humbled.

Please don’t stop telling them. I’m honored that a small piece of Pat Oltermann’s story is the last one I will share in the Mustang News.

I wouldn’t have it any other way because, wow, what an amazing woman. Go celebrate her and her accomplishments March 26 at the Mustang Town Center.

She deserves all the praise as she enters a blissful retirement.

I’ve grown so much as a person since working at the newspapers. Our staff has a lot to do with that.

I’ve learned from some of the best in the business, who have challenged me in all the right ways. The community has also challenged me. Yes, you.

You have been unafraid to tell me your thoughts about news. I appreciate those honest conversations more than you know.

Always remember, journalists are public servants and many, (especially the ones I know), have the most pure and ethical intentions of delivering the truth. I hope I have shown you that.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Mustang News publishers for the opportunity to serve this wonderful community. I can honestly say there’s a little bit of Bronco in these bones of mine now.

I’m overwhelmed with gratitude when I think of all the connections I’ve made through this job. Print journalism (the best journalism) will always course through my veins. I’m a storyteller at heart, and Mustang definitely holds a special place in this journalist’s heart.

I’m excited to announce I have accepted a position at United Way of Central Oklahoma to be the Director of Communications and Events. I’m so grateful for this new journey of storytelling.

I’ll still be around the area occasionally, as I will continue to be involved with the Canadian County Homeless Task Force as we move forward with becoming a Family Promise Affiliate.

So, if you see me, I expect at least a hello.

Cheers to new adventures!
