EDMOND — The Mustang boys had hoped to pull off the upset Saturday when they traveled to Edmond Santa Fe for the State Cross-Country Championship.

Facing a field that included Deer Creek, Westmoore, Edmond Memorial and Owasso, the Broncos were going to need things to go their way in order to defend their 2020 title.

Unfortunately for Mustang High School, that was not how the day went. Mustang ended up placing fifth overall with 152 points.

The Antlers of Deer Creek dominated the contest with 44 points. They had five runners place inside the top 15. That included AJ Antonelli who took the individual title with a time of 15:14.

Owasso (115), Edmond (125) and Westmoore (138) rounded out the rest of the teams in the top five.

Three of the Broncos’ top runners placed inside the top 30. Dylan Chaoomchaisiri led the charge by taking 22nd. He ran the 5k course in 16:40.

Freshman Cameron Langdon grabbed 27th in his first-ever state meet while sophomore Carson Patten finished in 28th.

Senior Jacob Thomas finished his prep career in 45th.

On the girls’ side, Jenks won the team championship with another run away performance.

Their 56 points was 48 points better than runner-up Deer Creek.

Mustang placed 14th with 337 points.

Junior Katharine Jones paced the Lady Broncos. Her time of 20:27 was good enough for 45th overall. Senior Emily Wilson took 59th.
