Tommy Joe Sellers, age 77, passed away on Aug. 8 in Oklahoma City.
Tommy was born in El Reno on Feb. 1, 1942, to Walter Paul and Nellie Mae McDaniel Sellers.
After graduating from Yukon High School in 1961, he served in the Army from 1961 to 1964. He was stationed at Schofield Barracks, after which he returned to Oklahoma.
He loved playing and watching football and helped his son in Little League sports in Yukon and Mustang. He also loved to hunt with his son. (They attempted it many times before getting his first deer, which proves Tommy was a patient man.)
He also loved the car races at the fairgrounds and was a loyal fan on Friday nights.
He was an avid gardener for several years after retiring and provided the fruits of his labor to family and friends with plenty left to sell to others.
He had a group of friends that he met for coffee and conversation each day for many years and, of course, to solve the world’s problems.
His occupation over his lifetime was a welder and diesel
Tommy was a good and kind man.
Anytime a niece or nephew needed a place to live, his door was always open. His family was his main priority. He was the happiest when surrounded by friends and family.
Several times a year, he would go to southeastern Oklahoma to camp and fish with the family there. The half bridge was his favorite fishing hole.
Tommy was preceded in death by his father and mother; sisters, Janeeta Coulson, Vivian Giddens, Ruth Stapp, Veda Mussett, Paula Mengee, Bonnie Joe Sellers and Betty Doris Sellers; and brothers Paul Sellers, Lloyd Sellers and Bill Sellers.
He is survived by his loving wife, Kay Sellers; son Monte Joe Sellers and daughter-in-law Jana; daughters Lori Contreras and Sarah Caldwell; son Brian Contreras; brother Harold and sister-in-law Sue Sellers; grandsons Casey Sellers, Kalub Contreras and Keagan Hiberd, Zack and Heath DeMarco and Austin Contreras; granddaughters Kara Contreras and Hannah Cranberg; great-granddaughters Lilyona, Adrionna and Graceland Contreras; great-grandsons Kane, Noah and Jace Contreras; Teri Ruth Johnson and Jennifer Bowen, and many more nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.
