Mustang volleyball learns where they are headed for Regionals on Oct. 3. But, for now the Broncos are winding down the season with six games in two weeks.
In the last seven days Mustang has faced off with No. 3 Deer Creek, Midwest City and Putnam City North, all on the road.
The Lady Broncos dropped the match to the Lady Antlers three games to one.
“Actually, we played three good games to start the match. It could have gone either way,” said coach Steve Hajek. “I felt like we could run with them and we did.”
In the first game Deer Creek, squeaked out a 25-22 win before the Broncos pulled out a 25-23 in Game Two. Deer Creek won Game Three, 25-21, and Game Four 25-16 to finish off the match victory.
Monday, Mustang traveled to Midwest City to face the Lady Bombers. With multiple girls either sick or injured, the Broncos had a tougher match than expected, but the Broncos walked out of the gymnasium with a three game to one victory.
“We didn’t play good, but we walked away with a win. We had four of our starters either sick or injured. We were not on the top of our game and we were fortunate to walk out of there with a win,” said Hajek.
Mustang opened the night with a 25-19 win before dropping Game Two, 23-25. The Broncos won the next two games with a combined score of 50-22.
Tuesday, Mustang took the short trip to Putnam City North and walked away with a three games to none win over the Lady Panthers.
“The girls played awesome tonight (Tuesday),” said Hajek.
The Broncos won Game One 25-20, Game Two 25-15 and Game Three 25-20.
The win advances the Broncos record to 21-7 on the season and has them sitting at No. 11 in the OSSAA rankings.
The Lady Broncos host No. 6 Edmond North tonight before traveling to No. 10 Yukon on Tuesday and then host Putnam City West to finish the regular season next Thursday, all games begin at 6 p.m.
“I’m using these games right now to prepare for regionals. I just need to make sure when we walk into regionals we are ready for anything that comes up,” said Hajek.
If the season were to end today Mustang would be paired up with Edmond North in the Huskies regional.
