Yukon volleyball earns third in rugged Norman tourney

In a hard-fought two days at Norman High School, the Yukon volleyball team took third place in a tournament loaded with strong competition.

The Millerettes finished with a record of 3-2 in the event and had an overall mark of 3-3 following the weekend.

Yukon earned three wins against Bixby, Moore and Carl Albert and suffered two losses to Deer Creek and Mustang.

Millerette Brianna Worth was named to the All-Tournament team.

In its opening match Friday against Deer Creek, Yukon was dealt a three sets to none loss. The Millerettes dropped the opening set 25-9, the second frame 25-19 and the third set 25-20.

The Millerettes responded strongly with a three sets to one win against Bixby. Yukon won the first set 25-21, the second set 25-22, lost the third set 25-21 and clinched the victory in the fourth set with a 25-22 win.

Yukon stayed hot in its third match Friday with a three sets to none win against Moore. The Millerettes took the first set 25-15, the second set 25-11 and the third set 25-18.

In their first match on Saturday, the Millerettes took on Mustang and fell to the Broncos three sets to one. Yukon won the opening set 25-18 but dropped the next three 25-21, 25-18 and 25-18.

Yukon closed the tournament with a five-set win against Carl Albert. The Millerettes won the opening set 25-18, won the second set 25-20, lost the third set 25-20, lost the fourth set 27-25 and won the fifth set 15-11.

The Millerettes played 19 sets in the two-day tournament and won 10 of those sets.

Yukon traveled to Edmond Santa Fe Tuesday and hosts Carl Albert at 6 p.m. Thursday.
