The Southwest Covenant volleyball team continued its strong start to the season over the weekend with a runner-up finish at the Clinton tournament.
The Patriots went 4-1 in the event and sit at 5-1 overall.
Southwest Covenant opened the tournament with a loss to Oklahoma Christian in two sets. The Patriots dropped the opening set 25-21 and fell 25-15 in the second frame.
The Patriots responded with a two-set sweep of tournament host Clinton in their next match. SWC won the first set 25-13 and took the second set 25-15.
Southwest Covenant beat Corn Bible two sets to none in its third match. The Patriots cruised in the first set 25-14 and controlled the second set 25-16.
The Patriots handled Noble in two sets in their fourth match. SWC won the first set 25-13 and the second set 25-17.
To end the tournament, Southwest Covenant took on Weatherford for the second time in less than a week. The Patriots opened the regular season with a three sets to one victory Thursday at home and they handled the Eagles again in Clinton with a two sets to one triumph. In the first set, it was SWC winning 25-23. The Patriots dropped the second set 25-20 but rebounded to win the third set 15-12.
Macie Noland and Kylie Moseley were named to the All-Tournament team.
Southwest Covenant won eight of the 11 sets it played in Clinton. The Patriots will be back in action at 6 p.m. Thursday at Community Christian School and then return to CCS for a Saturday tournament.
