The Yukon girls golf team will open the 2018 season in the Ponca City Tournament at noon today.
Millerette coach Patrick Courtney said his team has had a good preseason.
“Our preseason has been good,” Courtney said. “The team is improving, the girls are working hard to improve their short games and we have good competition for the two varsity spots left by seniors last year.”
Yukon returns varsity starters Alyssa Wilson, Ashlyn Acosta and Mackena Tennyson. Other returning varsity players include Cynthia DeLoera, Harli Wells and Gracie Mahoney.
Newcomers to the Millerette golf program are Emma Deatherage, Mallory Gay and Taylor Gearrald.
“Mackena (Tennyson) is our senior leader,” Courtney said. “Alyssa (Wilson) is one of the top players in the state and Ashlyn (Acosta) has dropped her score into the low 80s to give us a strong team this year. I expect us to continue to progress and improve as the season goes along.”
Courtney said he expects healthy competition inside their program will be a strong point for Yukon this spring.
“The competitive spirit among the girls will provide strength going into the regional and state tournaments,” Courtney said. “It should be a great season for the Yukon High School girls golf team.”
