Local businesses asked to donate to annual ‘Bean Supper’

The Mustang Fire Department is asking for donations from local businesses for the raffle being hosted at this year’s Firefighters Freedom Celebration.
Members of the fire department will be raffling off the donated prizes during the June 22 event. Raffle tickets will be sold for $1.
The firefighters are asking for gift cards or other items advertising the businesses. Cash donations are also accepted and will be used for purchasing larger items, such as TVs, grills, tools, etc. Checks should be made out to the Mustang Oklahoma Firefighter Association (MOFA).
Deputy Chief Roy Widmann said he’s not sure where the department is this year with donations, but local business “have been fantastic in the past.”
Any local business can donate items.
Anyone who wants to donate can call 376-9635 and members of the fire department will pick up the donations.
Besides donating items, many residents and community members have volunteered to help during the annual event to make sure it continues to run smoothly if firefighters receive a call, Widmann said.
“We really appreciate the community because we still have to cover the town if there’s a call,” Widmann said. “We’re utilizing some residents to help so if we do get a call everything will go on as it should.”
This is the 48th annual “Bean Supper,” which started as a simple fundraiser for the department and continues to grow. The event’s name was changed to the “Firefighters Freedom Celebration” in 2011.
The celebration includes the raffle, food, a DJ, fire truck rides, children’s activities and a fireworks show.
Tickets for the event are $5 and children younger than 5 are free. People may purchase their tickets in advance at the Fire Department.
A full story about the event will be in next Thursday’s Mustang News.
