Summer baseball heating up for Yukon

The Yukon summer baseball teams are in full swing with tournaments and regular season games in the Red Dirt Summer League.

The varsity squad will play in the DK Noble Varsity Tournament Thursday through Saturday. On the Thursday, the Millers will play the Oklahoma Angels 18U at 9 a.m. and then play the Midwest Elite 18U at 6 p.m. Both games will be at Noble High School.

On Friday, Yukon will play Arsenal at 9 a.m. at Seminole State College and then on Saturday, the Millers will play Full County Prospects at 6 p.m. at Blanchard High School.

The varsity 2 team will play at the Tuttle JV Tournament this coming weekend. They will play at noon Friday against Piedmont and then at 2 p.m. against Mustang.

They will resume action on Saturday when the tournament shifts from pool play to bracket play.

The junior varsity team played in the Zoriah Wood Bat Tournament at Tecumseh this past weekend and won the tournament by beating Tuttle 3-2 in the championship game.

The JV’s record following the tournament win was 15-6, as they entered this week of regular season games.

The Miller junior varsity team will host its own tournament at Miller Field this weekend. They will play Southmoore at 9 a.m. and then play Tecumseh at 7 p.m. in the night cap.

Yukon will resume action on Saturday at 9 a.m. against Edmond Santa Fe and then they will shift to bracket play on Sunday.

Junior varsity coach Brandon Ruiz said his team is improving throughout the summer season.

“Offensively, we are very good,” Ruiz said. “We are moving runners and playing small ball and executing. Defensively, there is room for improvement with the mental side of the game but that will come as they get into our system. I’m really proud of these guys, they are eager to learn and work extremely hard.”

The Yukon junior high team will play in the Guthrie Tournament this weekend. They will play Kingfisher at 6 p.m. Thursday at Kingfisher, Cashion at 3:45 p.m. Friday at Guthrie and Stillwater at 8:15 p.m. Saturday at Guthrie.
