Yukon High School 2017 graduate Lane Wallace will be heading to Norman in August to join the University of Oklahoma men’s golf team but before he heads south to start a new chapter, he is still doing damage on the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour.
Wallace won the 2017 Oklahoma Golf Association Junior Boys Championship at the Kickingbird Golf Club in Edmond last week.
The OGA tournament was four days beginning on Monday and concluding on Thursday. The first two days were stroke play and the final two days were match play.
Coming out of the stroke play rounds, Wallace was in second-place behind Logan McAllister of Oklahoma City. Wallace fired a combined six-under par with a 68 on Monday and a 66 on Tuesday.
He had seven total birdies, 28 total pars with only one bogey in those two rounds.
In the final two days of the tournament, it was match play between Wallace and McAllister and that is where the Yukon graduate shined. Wallace defeated McAllister and earned the tournament championship.
“I love match play,” Wallace said. “I seem to play my best golf in a one-on-one type of setting.”
When Wallace joins the Sooner golf team this coming fall semester at OU, he will be joining the defending national champions, as Oklahoma won the 2017 national title.
“It’s such a great feeling going there the year after the won the championship,” Wallace said. “I take it as a responsibility to keep it going and to help us win more championships.”
