Members of the Yukon American Legion and the Knights of Columbus will honor the community’s fallen heroes during a ceremony Monday.
Richard Cacini, who is coordinating the event, said the annual Memorial Day Ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. at the Yukon Cemetery and will include the reading of the names of all of the city’s fallen heroes.
This year’s list includes 540 names. That is up 21 names from last year, Cacini said.
Many of this year’s additions are Vietnam-era veterans, he said.
Cacini said the service, which will include the playing of taps, is one way to remember the sacrifices that were made.
“We want to make sure they get the recognition they deserve. Some of them made it home. Some did not. We’ve got to take care of those people,” he said.
Cacini said refreshments will follow at the Yukon Veterans Museum.
