Yukon scout earns Eagle Scout honors

Galen Joseph Hanby, a member of Yukon Troop 390, celebrated his achievement of the rank of Eagle Scout on Monday at his Court of Honor ceremony held at the St. John Nepomuk Catholic School gym.

Troop 390 Scoutmaster Brent Billerbeck presented the Eagle badge and Joe Baumann provided the Voice of the Eagle address.

Galen, 17, is the son of Joe and Beth Hanby, of Yukon.

Since crossing over to Boy Scouts six years ago, Galen has earned 35 merit badges, held numerous leadership roles, earned the Ad Altare Dei & Pope Pius XII emblems, and has spent 82 nights camping.

Galen continues to be active with his troop and has been awarded the Bronze Eagle Palm.

For his project, Galen planned and directed the reconfiguration of existing flower beds and the creation of additional flower beds at the Chisholm Trail Park Gazebo in Yukon.

Galen is a junior at Mount St. Mary Catholic High School, where he is a member of the National Honor Society, the cross country team, and vice president of the Baking Club.

He also serves on the St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church Youth Advisory Council and is active in the parish youth group.

He plans to attend the University of Oklahoma after graduation.
