Two Yukon wrestlers won the regional championship in their respective weights this past weekend at the 6A West Regional Tournament at YHS.
Defending state champion Jaxen Gilmore won the 145-pound weight class and Braden Fowler won the 106-pound weight division.
The Millers had four other grapplers qualify for the 6A State Wrestling Championship Tournament, which takes place Friday and Saturday at the State Fairgrounds Arena in Oklahoma City.
Defending state runner-up Chase Vincent took second-place in the 160-pound weight bracket and Baywiin Hollinshead finished second in the 152-pound weight class.
The other two Yukon wrestlers to qualify for the state tournament were Studd Morris in the 113-pound weight division, where he took fourth-place and Noah Hanscom in the 120-pound weight bracket, where he took fourth-place.
Gilmore had a record of 3-0 in the regional tournament with one fall. The 145-pounder won the regional championship 3-1 in overtime against his Edmond Memorial counterpart.
Fowler went 4-0 in the regional tournament with three falls. The 106-pounder defeated the Choctaw 106-pounder 1-0 in the regional final.
Vincent had a record of 3-1 in the regional event. Vincent finished with three falls. He lost the championship match 7-5 to the two-time defending state champion from Choctaw. Vincent was leading the majority of the match before the Choctaw 160-pounder made a late push in the third period to capture the regional title.
Hollinshead had a record of 3-1 in the regional tournament. The 152-pounder had one fall and fell to his counterpart from Midwest City 6-3 in the regional championship bout.
Morris had a record of 3-2 in the regional event. The 113-pounder had one fall in the tournament. Hanscom finished with a 4-2 record and the 120-pounder had one fall in the regional tournament.
In the 126-pound weight class, Yukon’s Wallace Tilley had a record of 3-2 with one fall. In the 132-pound weight division, the Millers’ Austin McCormack went 0-2 in the regional tournament and in the 138-pound weight bracket, YHS did not have a wrestler.
In the 170-pound weight class, Yukon’s Waylon Heger had a record of 4-2 with three falls. In the 182-pound weight division, the Millers’ George Horn went 4-2 with two falls and in the 195-pound weight bracket, YHS’ Corbin Gordon went 2-2 with two falls.
In the 220-pound weight class, Yukon’s Brett Gerber went 1-2 with one fall and in the 285-pound weight division, the Millers’ Ashton Aldridge went 0-2 in the regional tournament.
In the team standings, Yukon finished third overall out of 16 teams with 175.5 points. Choctaw took first with a total of 243 points, Edmond North finished in second with 207.5 points, Westmoore took fourth with 147.5 points, Mustang placed fifth with 141 points, Deer Creek finished sixth with 124 points, Midwest City took seventh with a time of 111 points, Edmond Memorial placed eighth with 100 points, Putnam City finished in ninth with 79 points, Edmond Santa Fe took 10th with 72 points, Norman placed 11th with 71 points, Putnam City North finished in 12th with 59.5 points, Moore took 13th with 43 points, Lawton placed 14th with 24 points, U.S. Grant finished in 15th with 11 points and Putnam City West took 16th with nine points.
