Yukon wrestling: Miller grapplers enter state tournament with momentum

After qualifying six wrestlers at the 6A West Regional Tournament this past weekend, Yukon is entering the 6A State Championship Tournament with a lot of momentum.

Two Millers enter as No. 1 seeds. Jaxen Gilmore at 145 pounds and Braden Fowler at 106 pounds both won their weight classes at the regional tournament. Gilmore is a returning 6A state champion.

Chase Vincent and Baywiin Hollinshead enter as No. 2 seeds in the state tournament. Vincent, at 160 pounds, is the defending state runner-up in Class 6A. Hollinshead will compete in the 152-pound weight class.

Studd Morris and Noah Hanscom will be No. 4 seeds in the 113-pound weight division and 120-pound weight bracket at the state tournament.

The 6A State Championship Wrestling Tournament will take place Friday and Saturday at the State Fairgrounds Arena in Oklahoma City.

Here is the breakdown of each bracket Yukon will have a wrestler competing in this weekend:

In the 106-pound weight class, Fowler will be the No. 1 seed from the west going against Corwin Strachan of Bartlesville, who is the No. 4 seed from the east. Union’s T.J. Long is the No. 2 seed from the east and will take on Edmond Memorial’s Garrett Steidley, who is the No. 3 seed from the west. Sand Springs Riley Weir is the No. 1 seed from the east and will take on Edmond North’s Nate Becker, who is the No. 4 seed from the west. Choctaw’s Gabe Johnson is the No. 2 seed from the west and will take on Broken Arrow’s Jackson Cockrell, who is the No. 3 seed from the east.

In the 113-pound weight class, Morris will be the No. 4 seed from the west and will take on Sapulpa’s Brandon Blose, who is the No. 1 seed from the east. Choctaw’s Colt Newton is the No. 2 seed from the west and will take on the No. 3 seed from the east Bartlesville’s Brayden Strachan. Westmoore’s Canton Randall is the No. 1 seed from the west and he will take on Ponca City’s Karson Bellmard, who is the No. 4 seed from the east. Sand Springs’ Tanner Ward is the No. 2 seed from the east and will take on Mustang’s Cameron Picklo, who is the No. 3 seed from the west.

In the 120-pound weight class, Hanscom will be the No. 4 seed from the west and take on Broken Arrow’s Tyler Lawley, who is the No. 1 seed from the east. The No. 2 seed from the east is Mustang’s Joe Lupton and he will take on Bartlesville’s Laif Jones, who is the No. 3 seed from the east. Edmond North’s Paxton Rosen is the No. 1 seed from the west and will take on Muskogee’s Kyri Beasley, who is the No. 4 seed from the east. Sand Springs’ Michael Ritchey is the No. 2 seed from the east and will take on Choctaw’s Andy Schlaepfer, who is the No. 3 seed from the west.

In the 145-pound weight class, Gilmore will be the No. 1 seed from the west and take on Broken Arrow’s Brady Mattioda, who is the No. 4 seed from the east. Sand Springs’ Beau Bratcher is the No. 2 seed from the east and will take on Westmoore’s Zachary Johnson, who is the No. 3 seed from the west. Stillwater’s Kendon Lee is the No. 1 seed from the east and will take on Deer Creek’s Micah Lugafet, who is the No. 4 seed from the west. Edmond Memorial’s Seth Graves is the No. 2 seed from the west and will take on Owasso’s Brandon Conrad, who is the No. 3 seed from the east.

In the 152-pound weight class, Hollinshead will be the No. 2 seed from the west and he will take on Enid’s Austin Loza, who is the No. 3 seed from the east. Ponca City’s Ezequiel Rubio is the No. 1 seed from the east and will take on Westmoore’s Ryan Swanson, who is the No. 4 seed from the west. Midwest City’s Robert Walker is the No. 1 seed from the west and will take on Owasso’s Richie Lee, who is the No. 4 seed from the east. Sand Springs’ Payton Scott is the No. 2 seed from the east and will take on Choctaw’s Jeff Speer, who is the No. 3 seed from the west.

In the 160-pound weight class, Vincent will be the No. 2 seed from the west and take on Stillwater’s Connor Wilcoxen, who is the No. 3 seed from the east. Broken Arrow’s Caleb Wise is the No. 1 seed from the east and will take on Mustang’s Cooper Meadows, who is the No. 4 seed from the west. Choctaw’s Jaryn Curry is the No. 1 seed from the west and will take on Sand Springs’ Noah Almy, who is the No. 4 seed from the east. Norman North’s Joseph Messer is the No. 2 seed from the east and will take on Edmond Santa Fe’s Williams Depona, who is the No. 3 seed from the west.
