Millers take second-place in Durant Lion Classic

The Yukon boys basketball team traveled to Durant to compete in the Durant Lion Classic in their first of three tournaments this year.

The Millers went 2-1 in the event and improved their overall record to 3-2 on the young season.

In their first game, YHS took on Hugo and won the game by a score of 73-43. However, Yukon got off to a slow start, as they trailed 11-8 after one quarter of play. The Millers responded with a strong second quarter and took a 31-23 lead into the halftime break. In the third quarter, YHS extended their lead 49-33 over Hugo and in the fourth and final frame, they extended their lead even more to secure the 30-point win.

Cameron Martin led Yukon with 27 points, Karten Berg had 13 points, Vernon Turner had seven points, Tallyn Brazell had five points, Rickey Jones had five points, Carson Price had five points, Jordan Williams had four points, Cole Bailey had three points, Camon McGee had two points and Eli White had two points.

In their second game of the Durant Lion Classic, the Millers took on tournament host Durant and defeated the Lions 89-64. YHS lead 25-22 after one quarter of play and extended their lead in the second, as they went up 46-34. They built an insurmountable lead in the third quarter, as they went up 71-46 going into the fourth where both teams scored the same amount of points making the final difference 25 points.

Cameron Martin had 31 points to lead the way for Yukon, Vernon Turner had 15 points, Jordan Williams had 13 points, Karsten Berg had nine points, Carson Price had five points, Daunte McGee had four points, Eli White had four points, Cole Bailey had three points, Damian Cates had three points and Rickey Jones had two points.

In the third and final game of the tournament for the Millers, they fell to Westmoore 63-58 in the championship game. YHS jumped out to an early lead on the Jaguars, as they led 23-15 after one quarter. WM struck back in the second and took a 38-36 lead into the halftime break. The Jags built on that lead in the third quarter, as they went up 54-47 going into the fourth quarter. Yukon put a run on WM in the final frame but it wasn’t enough, as the Jaguars held them off to capture the tournament championship.

Cameron Martin led the way for the Millers with 19 points, Jordan Williams had 13 points, Vernon Turner had 10 points, Daunte McGee had six points, Karsten Berg had five points, Tallyn Brazell had four points and Cole Bailey had one point.
