Wrestling: No. 9 Mustang knocks off Class 3A No. 4 Heritage Hall for first dual win

No. 9 Mustang cruised to a 51-31 dual win over Class 3A No. 4 Heritage Hall Tuesday inside the Mustang Event Center.

Heritage Hall (3-2) got off to a quick start, building a 19-0 lead, however the Broncos (1-1) stormed back with 33 straight points to help seal the victory.

The Chargers started the dual with three straight pins. Joey Carter (Jr.) fell to RJ Mastey in the first period at 145 pounds, Brock Ross (Sr.) fell to Carson West in the first period at 152 and Cooper Meadows (Jr.) fell to Colton Penny in the second period at 160.

Gage McBride (Sr.) picked up a forfeit win at 170 pounds before two straight default wins for Mustang at 182 and 195. Austin Brown (Sr.) gave the Broncos the lead after pinning Edwin Lorne in the first period at 220 before a default win at heavyweight and an 8-6 decision by Joe Lupton (Jr.) over Cruz Aguilar at 106 to extend the advantage to 33-19.

Heritage Hall’s Van Park pinned Colten Bierig (So.) in the second period at 113 pounds to cut the lead to 33-35, however Cameron Picklo (So.) and Weldon Bryan (Fr.) rebounded for the Broncos. Picklo pinned Sammy Cooper in the second period at 120 before Bryan pinned Matthew Egger in the second round at 126. Trey Edwards (Sr.) followed with a default win before Briar Mosier (Fr.) fell in the second period to Kaden GFeller at 145 to round out the dual.

Mustang returns to action Tuesday at home, hosting Bedlam-rival No. 5 Yukon (1-0) at 7 p.m. in the Event Center.
