The Yukon wrestling team got off to a strong start with their dual season on Thursday night with a 43-27 road victory at Piedmont.
It was the sixth-straight year the Millers have opened the season against the Wildcats and the sixth-straight victory.
“It was a good start,” Yukon coach Joe Schneider said. “I thought overall we wrestled pretty well. We still have a lot of work to do but we will go back to work tomorrow and get ready for our next dual.”
There was only one forfeit in the dual and that came at the 106-pound match with Yukon’s Steven Cook getting the forfeit, six-point win for the Millers.
In the 113-pound match, Yukon’s Braden Fowler won by fall against Piedmont’s Bo Hardy in the second period to give YHS the 12-0 lead.
Piedmont got on the board in the 120-pound match with Josh Clyden first-period pin of Yukon’s Kylon Burgert.
In the 126-pound match, Yukon’s Wallace Tilley won by fall in the second period over Piedmont’s Josh Henson to give the Millers the 18-6 edge.
Yukon’s Broc Bailey fell in the 132-pound match to Piedmont’s Logan Chappell by a score of 6-1 to cut Yukon’s lead to 18-9.
In the 138-pound match, Yukon’s Jaxen Gilmore won by pin over Piedmont’s Nathan Morse in the first period to give the Millers a 24-9 advantage.
In the 145-pound match, Yukon’s Zane Taylor pinned Piedmont’s Mason Morse in the second period to give the Millers a 30-9 lead.
In the 152-pound match, Yukon’s Baywiin Hollingshead defeated Fisher Johnson 13-5 to give the Millers a 34-9 lead.
In the 160-pound match, Yukon’s Waylon Heger defeated Piedmont’s Wyatt Lewis 8-4 in overtime to give the Millers a 37-9 lead.
In the 170-pound match, Yukon’s Chase Vincent dominated Piedmont’s Braden Culp with a first-period pin to give the Millers a 43-9 lead.
In the 182-pound match, Yukon’s Brannen Pounds was pinned in the first round cutting the Millers’ lead to 43-15.
In the 195-pound match, Yukon’s Colin Foster was pinned in overtime by Piedmont’s Will Heinselman to cut the Millers’ lead to 43-21.
In the 220-pound match, Yukon’s Brett Gerber fell to Piedmont’s Dylan Meadows 16-10 to cut the Millers’ lead to 43-24.
In the 285-pound match, Yukon’s Ashton Alridge fell to Zach Morse of Piedmont 5-0 to make the final difference 43-27 in favor of the Millers.
Yukon will host its first dual of the season at home this Thursday against Edmond Memorial. Junior varsity will begin at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7 p.m.
“Edmond Memorial is a big rival for us in our district,” Schneider said. “We are looking forward to our dual with them and then of course, Mustang the following Tuesday.”
