For those considering serving their community, look no further as filing is next week for two seats on the city council and school board of education.
The Canadian County Election Board will open at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 5 and accept filings until 4:30 p.m. and continue during the same times on Tuesday, Dec. 6 and Wednesday, Dec. 7.
Positions open for filings include Wards 5 and 6 on the city council, and offices No. 2 and 4 for the school board.
Linda Hagan currently holds the Ward 5 post and Jess Schweinberg for Ward 6 on the council. Then Mike Kessler, current board vice president, serves in the No. 2 seat and Chad Schroeder in the No. 4 seat.
The No. 4 seat is an unexpired term as Schroeder was appointed this past year when Amanda Strassle resigned due to an error in her required continuing education credits.
Elections for these positions will be held Feb. 14, along with the school district’s $181.28 million bond proposal. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the total votes cast in the election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in a runoff election on April 4.
