Yukon High School graduate Matt Goodson inducted into UCO Athletics HOF

Yukon High School graduate Matt Goodson was recently inducted into the University of Central Oklahoma Athletics Hall of Fame for his accomplishments on the wrestling mat for the Bronchos.

Goodson was an All-State wrestler for Yukon High School in the mid-90’s and went to UCO on a wrestling scholarship where he was a starting grappler for the Bronchos from 1996 through 1998.

Goodson won three regional championships and was a three-time All-American for the Central Oklahoma wrestling team. He finished in career with a 95-27 record.

Goodson went 9-3 in a back-up role as a redshirt freshman on a national championship team in the 1994-1995 season before claiming for the Midwest Regional crown and finishing third nationally the following season with a 22-9 record and seven bonus-point wins at 126-pounds.

Goodson moved up to 134-pounds the next year and had a record of 30-10 with 13 bonus wins in 1996-1997, capturing another regional crown and taking fifth in the national tournament.

The Yukon native finished his career in dominating fashion as a senior in 1997-1998, dropping back down to 126-pounds and going 34-5 with 12 bonus-point wins and 142 takedowns. Goodson won five tournaments and was runner-up in two others. He capped off the season by winning his third-consecutive Midwest Regional title before heading to the NCAA Division II national championship.

    My cousin Bob Bailey a 1979 Yukon graduate was also inducted to the UCO hall of fame the same night. He was a baseball player that held several records … I would love for you to write an article about him !
