The featured speaker at Thursday’s Yukon Chamber of Commerce monthly membership luncheon presented an overview on how a group of volunteer business professionals provide mentoring services that can aid in a company’s success.
Ken Dekker is a mentor and counselor for SCORE, a network of 11,000 business experts that provide free, ongoing mentoring for first time business owners. Mentors with the company are from every business sector and have worked as executives for Fortune 500 companies as well as small businesses.
Along with expert advice on opening a business, SCORE also provides:
• Free face-to-face advice with an experienced mentor to answer business questions
• Access to 500 skill sets of SCORE’s nationwide, volunteer network
• Support tools and templates to help business owner achieve their goals.
Dekker explained how SCORE helps implement sound business planning, product and service reviews, financial insights, marketing and promotion, resource planning and sales and customer care.
Workshops available in the Oklahoma City metro area include “Business Basics: Starting Your Own Business” – a four-hour course that focuses on marketing, finance, legal and management aspects of a new business.
