Mustang’s Nightriders marching band performs in Yukon Tuesday for OSSAA competition. The band earned a “superior” rating.

The Mustang Nightriders took superior ratings at the West OSSAA Regional Marching Contest hosted by the Yukon High School band program on Oct. 25.

The Mustang Nightriders performed to the highest expectations of the judges when they took to the field performing their show “Temptress.”

The students have been perfecting the show “Temptress” for weeks on end.  Countless early morning and late night practices have brought this group of hard working, determined and impressive students to gain the astonishment and awe inspiring classification of the “superior” OSSAA rating.

They are led by drum majors Sarah Hamel, Emma Hicks, CJ Hinds and Paul Nguyen.

The “Temptress” show is based off the DC Comics featuring Poison Ivy. The villain Poison Ivy first made her appearance in the Batman comic back in 1966. She is super-villainess and depicted as one of the world’s most notorious eco-villains.  Poison Ivy is obsessed with plants of all sorts.  She uses the toxins from the plants to have mind-controlling abilities.

In the Nightriders show “Temptress,” the color guard portrays themselves to be the eco-villains that have mind-controlling abilities over the band. As they lead the band in different directions across the field, they try to temp them into going toward the flowers of passion and obsess over their future selves.

Will the band be able to have their strong minds keep them safe or will the “Temptress” profess her false love or affection for her victims?

The Nightriders hope to continue their success when they head to the OBA 6A Championships held in Broken Arrow on Saturday, Oct. 29.
