After graduation, she attended Dodge City Community College for two years. She then moved to Emporia, Kansas and attended Emporia State Teacher’s College. Jane met the love of her life, Kenneth Schlup, her senior year of college on a blind date. Jane married Kenneth on June 4, 1966 in Dodge City at Sacred Heart Cathedral. They lived in Emporia, Kansas until they moved to Edmond in 1970. They moved to Bridge Creek a few years later and lived there for 25 years. In 1998 they moved to Mustang. Jane loved teaching and taught school for 21 years starting in Kansas, then in the Oklahoma City area and ending at Bridge Creek Schools where she retired in 1988.
During the late 70s early 80s, she had become a marathon runner and enjoyed aerobics. It was after a knee surgery that she found it harder to make a comeback as a runner and was having other medical difficulties as well. She was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1985 after returning from a vacation visiting her brother in Swaziland, Africa. A place she had always wanted to go.
