Cheer squad set for state competition

The Yukon Large Co-Ed cheer team earned its way back to the State Cheer Competition, which takes place Saturday at Gallagher Iba Arena on the campus of Oklahoma State University.

The Yukon squad will compete at 5:27 p.m. They are one of nine teams who made the state competition in the Large Co-Ed division. They will be competing against Grove, Choctaw, Moore, Bixby, Westmoore, Broken Arrow, Owasso and Woodward.

Yukon competed in the regional competition last Saturday at Midwest City High School and took fifth-place.

“We just need to wipe the slate clean and not worry about what has happened in the past,” senior Chyann Cypert said. “The atmosphere is really intense up there because everyone is there watching and yelling. We just have to worry about what we can control.”

Yukon cheer sponsor Tiffiany Webb said the experience at state is special.

“There’s just so much excitement and the atmosphere with Gallagher Iba Arena is incredible,” Webb said. “The girls also get to go and practice on the football field and they all love doing that. We just have to make sure and stay calm as a team because some of the girls who have never been there before can get overwhelmed at times.”
