Mustang’s former athletic director filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court against Mustang Public Schools Monday.
Chuck Bailey was fired Aug. 12 by the Mustang Public Schools Board of Education, one year after he reportedly wrote a letter to a district judge on school letterhead in support of his nephew, who was up for parole from prison.
Bailey alleges his actions were a matter of free speech and his termination was wrongful. In the lawsuit, Bailey accuses Superintendent Sean McDaniel of also breaking state law on three separate occasions as superintendent.
Bailey is seeking in excess of $75,000 in damages and attorney fees. He also is asking for an injunction ordering the district to reinstate him to his former position, or in lieu of, an award of front pay to be determined by the court.
