Yukon High School senior finishes with a -8 in two-day event
For the past several months, Yukon High School senior golfer Lane Wallace has been spending 80 percent of his practices on the putting green trying to improve his short game.
This past weekend, Wallace saw the fruits of his labor with a first-place finish in the Oklahoma Junior Golf Tour (OJGT) John Conrad Labor Day Tournament in Midwest City.
The tournament began on Sunday and concluded on Monday. Wallace fired a 2-under-par 70 on Sunday and a 6-under-par 66 on Monday to finish 8-under-par for the tournament.
The University of Oklahoma commit has four more tournaments he is scheduled to compete in this before the end of the year.
Wallace will compete in OJGT tournaments at Hefner Golf Club and Lincoln Golf Club in Oklahoma City and then compete in the OJGT Tour Championship, which will take place in Shawnee at the Shawnee Country Club.
Wallace’s final tournament of the year will be the Red River Rivalry between Team Oklahoma and Team Texas. The tournament will take place at The Territory Golf Club in Duncan.
Wallace said his goals for the remainder of the year and school year heading into his final summer before attending OU are very simple.
“I want to win every tournament I compete in,” Wallace said. “I know I can if I play the way I’m capable of playing. I want to play well, putt well and build my confidence as I head into the winter months. I am going to compete in some bigger tournaments over the winter. In the past, I didn’t do much in the winter, but this year is going to be different. That will help lead me into the spring school season, where my goal is to win the state championship.”
