Kevin Stoneking of the Oklahoma State Insurance Office presented a citation of congratulations on behalf of Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak.

In the citation, it reads that the Mustang Fire Department proves that dedication and teamwork combined with courage, fortitude and public service, can make a positive difference in a community.

It also stated that the MFD displays “perseverance and skill while reducing the occurrence of fires and fire injuries.”

Recently, the fire department and city announced an upgrade to the city’s ISO fire rating from a ISO 4 to a 3.

The new rating will go into effect Nov. 1, the city has noted.

ISO examines the extent to which growth threatens the effectiveness of public fire protection, according to their website. They study some of the ways communities are working to keep pace with growth and improve protection for their citizens.

Ratings also impact property/casualty insurance and its costs to homeowners and businesses. In short, the lower the ISO rating on a scale of 1 to 10, the better the insurance premiums.
