It’s been 10 years since they have asked for help but the time has come again for the community to answer their call.
Paul Ray, commander of Mustang’s American Legion Post 353, said this week the Legion will put up the “Avenue of Flags” on Mustang Road and State Highway 152 in Mustang. City crews will help the Legion in blocking traffic, Ray noted.
The American flags will be installed this Friday and stay up until Sept. 16 which is POW/MIA Day, he explained.
“It’s been about 10 years we have collected money from the community to fund this and it’s time to do it again,” Ray said.
The commander anticipated approximately 30 to 45 of the total 128 flags will need to be replaced after they come down Sept. 16. He estimates it will take between $700 to $1,000 to do so.
Anyone wanting to donate can find the American Legion at Western Days on Sept. 8-9. Ray said members will be on hand at their festival booth to accept donations. If anyone would like to donate outside of the festival, contact Ray at 921-5819 or by email at [email protected]
