EDMOND – Mustang’s cross country teams kicked off the season with a pair of top-five finishes at the 2016 Deer Creek Invite Saturday.
Cameron Mills (Jr.) and Parker Huckabay (So.) each finished in the top-five individually, leading the boys to fourth place while Madison Cornelius (Sr.) finished third, leading the girls to fifth.
Mills placed third overall for the boys with a time of 16:52.9 while Huckabay finished fifth with a time of 17:17.9. Edmond North’s Parker Jackson (So.) won the race with a time of 16:32.9.
Tyler Reddick (So.) finished 29th with a time of 18:18.4, Kaleb Brooks (Fr.) finished 37th with a time of 18:31.9, Chris Chestnut (Jr.) finished 41st with a time of 18:53.3, Cameron Gausman (Sr.) finished 46th with a time of 19:08.8 and Benji VanAken (So.) finished 47th with a time of 19:20.2.
Edmond North finished first overall as a team followed by Deer Creek and Bishop McGuinness.
Cornelius placed third overall for the girls with a time of 20:06.1, 50 seconds behind first-place finisher Elysia Burgos (Jr.) of Deer Creek.
Paris Nance (Fr.) and Emma Downing (Jr.) each finished in the top-25. Nance placed 23rd with a time of 21:30.6 and Downing placed 25th with a time of 21:38.2. Isabella Hochstetler (Sr.) finished 34th with a time of 22:02.7, Tyler Schwemley (Sr.) finished 37th with a time of 22:11.6, Savannah Basco (Jr.) finished 40th with a time of 22:13.4 and Rachel Hamel (Sr.) finished with a time of 22:21.0.
Edmond North finished first overall in the girls race followed by Elgin and Bishop McGuinness.
Mustang returns to the course Tuesday for a scrimmage against Yukon before hosting the 2016 Mustang Harrier Thursday at Wild Horse Park.
