The Yukon softball team traveled to Norman Aug. 18 and competed in the Southmoore Festival on Saturday, winning two-out-of-three games.
The Millerettes defeated Norman 8-2 behind a solid pitching and defensive performance. Breeley Webb was in the circle for YHS against the Lady Tigers and got the win. Cheynne Factor was the star at the plate for Yukon, going three-for-three with six-of-the-eight RBIs belonging to her.
Factor was also a force in the field, as she made several tough plays from the short stop position to help Yukon to the six-run victory. Right fielder Jewell Lee also made several nice plays for the Millerettes against NHS.
“We struggled a little bit at the plate,” Yukon coach Katy Hoke said. “But we got a good pitching performance from Breeley (Webb) and Cheynne (Factor) was great for us, both with the bat and in the field. We also got some good defensive plays from Jewell (Lee) in right field.”
In the Southmoore Festival, Yukon took on Union in their first-game of the day and defeated the Lady Redskins 9-1 in a five-inning run-rule. Bre Johnson pitched in the game for the Millerettes. Game two of the day was not as kind to YHS, as they fell to Westmoore 1-0.
“We just couldn’t get anything going offensively,” Hoke said. “We battled and played hard, but we just couldn’t get the big hits when we had chances.”
Yukon now sits with a perfect 7-0 mark in the district, as they host non-district opponent Putnam City North at 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. on Thursday night and then travel to Ponca City for a 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. district match up.
