For the first time in his decorated career, Yukon girls soccer coach Steve Scott won the National Soccer Association of America 2016 Oklahoma Large School High School Girls State Coach of the Year.
Scott has won the same award for the small school high school girls coaches four other times in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, while he coached at Capitol Hill High School, but this was the first at a large school.
The Millerette coach has been building a successful program here at Yukon since his arrival and said this award is a testament to the people he’s had the honor to work with over the years.
“This award was made possible by the coaching staff that I have been blessed with since I’ve been here and the players I have had the chance to coach,” Scott said. “This award reflects on the entire program as a whole. It wouldn’t have happened without my staff and my players. The process has been a steady one, as we have improved a little bit every year. It has taken some time, but we are building something special here at Yukon.”
The annual award is given out to all the eligible coaches, who are a part of the NSCA.
“It’s a great honor when you think about how many great coaches there are in the large-school division across Oklahoma,” Scott said. “I am very fortunate and very blessed.”
