Mattie Mae Owens Smith, age 90, died on June 16 after a short illness. She was born Nov. 15, 1925 in Coal County to Charlie and Aileen Brown Sims.
She grew up in and around Coalgate. Mattie moved with her family to Oklahoma City in the early 1950s where she owned and operated the South Shields Café for many years.
She moved to Mustang in 1972 and back to Oklahoma City in 2013. She was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands Ruford and Bob, two sons Walter and an infant Benny, one grandson Terry, two sisters Alice and Faye and two brothers Weldon and Dolph.
Survivors include two sons, Dale Owens and wife Sharon, and Gary Owens and wife Terri, all of Mustang, one daughter-in-law Suzie Owens of Oklahoma City; also by 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Services were held June 18 in the Chapel of The Good Shepherd at McNeil’s Funeral Service, Mustang, with interment following in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Okla.
